Priceless and ageless!

Duke Fulco di Verdura, the master jewellery designer started it all in 1939 in America. Fulco was the designer to many Hollywood’s leading ladies back then, such as Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, and Joan Crawford, women who were known for the beauty, elegance and style. He has also created stunning necklaces, brooches, and bracelets for that era’s socilities who chose to wear in their films, awards ceremonies and great parties.

Duke Fulco di Verdura’s life has always been an extraordinary. He was born to Sicilian aristocracy and century after was discovered by Coco Chanel in 1925 and brought to Paris to redesign her wide-ranging jewellery collection. Fulco beckoned America in 1934 after 8 years of working with Coco Chanel and Verdura opened his first salon above Fifth Avenue in 1939, which was backed by his friends Cole Porter and Vincent Astor. Fulco’s success took off, and he became legend from Hollywood to the palaces of Europe for his sophisticated and imaginative jewellery.

Fulco has proved how gemstones were pressed into yellow gold in superb contradiction to one another in early 1930s and stunned the statue quo in jewellery design when did collaboration with Coco Chanel. Precious emeralds, rubies and sapphires were electrified into new life beside the vivid half-hues of amethyst, peridot and tourmaline. No one can do glamour better than Duke Fulco di Verdura! I first came across to Verdura jewellery at Masterpiece, London early July and I was astonished to the rarity and preciousness of the gemstones. Verdura exhibited a wide range of beautiful jewels which was made available for purchase during the show, including vintage pieces, along with the classics from the designer’s archives. Verdura introduced 1930s-1940s inspired Spring collection and Out of This World: from the Celestial to the Surreal, which celebrated Verdura’s 1941 Collaboration with Salvador Dali. The theme was the highlight to the show, the collaboration between Fulco and Salvadori explored themes of love, loss and faith amidst the atrocity and devastation of WWII.
